Monroe I've been meaning to ask did you ever get someone at orbiter spaceflight simulator to model an N-Prize launch?? I've been looking into trying to make a model for the simulator.......

I haven’t been in touch with them lately but I did glance over there. I’m sure you could get some help over there if you ask, there’s a whole bunch of guys doing that. let me know maybe we can get a whole N-Prize thing going
Monroe I'm still interested but my times limited. |

I've been looking into trying to make a model for the simulator....... Iain, I wrote a simple orbital simulator that we have been using at team Prometheus. It's only a 2D simulator at this point, but I'm working on adding a third dimension. The simulator does include atmospheric drag at various elevations and also factors in the rotation of the earth. Even though the simulator is fairly simple it does allow us to try different launch scenarios. We have simulated a 5-stage rocket using off-the-shelf motor reloads that would put a 20-gram payload into orbit. The motor casings would have to be heavily modified to get the weigh down. Dave |

If you have the capability of simulating a launch how about trying a simulation starting from 20 miles up. If a bunch of school kids can get a digital camera that high we should be able to get a rocket up there to start the launch.

We have just gained the number one spot in Canada for unemployment. Some luxuries are being given up. Good idea, great cars, bad timing _________________ "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate and wine in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!" |

It would take a lot more rocket to get from the ground to 30 km and then to orbit. Dave |
