Hi, how do they get cargo from the dragon trunk to the ISS? It looks like there is the heat shield between the trunk and the rest of Dragon.

There will be only "unpressurized" cargo in the trunk -> large items intended for the outside of the space station.
They will use the stations robotic arm, to get the cargo out of the trunk. On this first flight, there was no cargo in the trunk, but if I remember correctly, they did try out the arm maneuvers to see if everything works as expected. _________________ pride comes before a fall |

That makes sense, thanks! So nothing from the trunk goes into the station. Do you have any idea, or examples, of things that might get transported in the trunk in future missions?

I have no idea if anything is already scheduled to be transported (if I remember correctly, they said in a press conference, that trunk cargo is not planned until flight 5 or something).
If you take a look around here, you can find a lot information about parts that could potentially be delivered in Dragon's trunk: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orbital_Replacement_Units Personally the first thing I was thinking about where the Pump Modules (PM) and Ammonia tank assemblys (ATA) for the stations cooling systems, at least this is something that has failed in the past. _________________ pride comes before a fall |
