Ariane 5/R-7 combo?

I was thinking the other day--about whether or not the R-7's conical strap-ons might be used around a wider core. I was thinking about a tri-propellant core with LOX, hydrogen, and some hypergolic fuel used right at lift-off.
I wonder what R-7 strap-ons would look like around an Ariane 5--or if it is even doable... |

Why should they use R-7 strap-ons on the Ariane 5?
Their performance is already high enough as they don't have ambitious plans that needs a heavy lift capability. Further steady increases in performance are realised by using modernised solid rocket boosters..the last launch already featured some 200 kilograms lighter boosters, with the experience from the Vega launch vehicle they get another small payload increase. I'm not sure where to put your hypergolic fuels as the R-7 variants don't use that kind of fuel for propulsion? About adding such strap-ons to the Ariane 5: the currently used boosters deliver about 1,100 tonnes of thrust at liftoff the 4 strap-on of a Soyuz deliver about 400 tonnes of thrust so you would need about 12 strap-ons to get the same thrust at liftoff... _________________ "The hardest hurdle to space isn't the technicalities and money. He's probably talking about trying to build the Ariane-M, that poster Publiusr is obsessed with Heavylift

Something like that. It just seems to me that the conical strap-ons might be a good fit on other vehicles.
Nothing to say tyhat the Ariane 5 or similar tankage might be modified to use other fuels. |
