Lockheed have just released some details on their lunar lander concepts for NASA, see article;
http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/content/?cid=4810 One thing that surprised me was that they are thinking about using H2/O2 for propulsion. Its amazing how many designs appear using the RL-10 engine. I liked the idea of a wheeled lander that can be towed into position and the fact that solar panels and other systems could be left on the lunar surface to expand a base. I wonder what Boeing's offering is likely to be, will they play it safe or be more cutting edge in their designs? Losing the CEV contract must have hurt even though they appeared to be almost unconcerned in the media perhaps that will affect what they put forward. _________________ A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. |
