It is a very complete article with some tidbits that I did not know.

I don't know if you guys saw the 'extras' link. http://www.dallasobserver.com/slideshow/web-extra-armadillo-aerospace-fires-the-rocket-29896606/18/ There is a little slide show that has some very telling captions.

Some interesting points are

  • They are adding a parachute (not sure if it is a full chute or just a stabilizing drogue)
  • John Carmack only has a big map of the U.S. behind him for the moment that just make him patriotic, We will know he has gone evil once it becomes giant map of the world.
  • James is his own welding jig.
  • Apparently the only things left to do are; do something to the GPS mount, install solenoids, hose, and wiring into the nose cone, and measure the master cutoff voltage. (have volt meter will travel)
  • There is also a pile of washers and nuts on the checklist. I assume they are the ones left over after the last tear-down/rebuild.
  • It looks like they did some aggressive maneuver testing.

Ha Ha, John Carmack is a felon! :D
"At 14, he was arrested for trying to steal an Apple II and spent a year in a juvenile home, during which time he invented a giant role-playing game called Wraith."
