Haven't seen this mentioned before, so I thought I'd put this here.
The personally ironic thing is that I moved FROM Midland in the early 90's specifically because there were no aerospace opportunities there. http://news.yahoo.com/xcor-aerospace-an ... 00205.html "The Midland Development Corp. and Midland City Council on Monday will consider approving a $10 million incentive deal that would bring the headquarters of" XCOR Aerospace to the area. Officials "said the investment will bring a unique and growing industry to the Permian Basin that will add the kind of diversification voters said they wanted when they approved the 4A economic development tax nearly 11 years ago." Some believe a deal could bring other companies to the area as well. XCOR "expects to expand rapidly if it can locate its headquarters in Midland and if the Federal Aviation Administration designates Midland International Airport as a spaceport, said Andrew Nelson, chief operating officer for XCOR." Nelson and others do expect the FAA to approve the spaceport, according to the article. This will put three spaceports (SP America, Midland International, and Blue Origin's private pad) in close proximity to each other, relatively speaking. |
