The elevator prize provides a cash prize each for the climber, the cable and the energy source.
The cable prize might be interesting for the both teams launching from a balloon I think. They obviously don't have cables to fix their ballons on the gorund. The cables have to be 25 km or 10 km long and might be to heavy and to costly but in the case of the elevator cable this might be different. Several teams a using carbon fiber and epoxy to reduce weight - they are using basic materials required for the elevator cable but the climber has to be of reduced weight too. May the cabins these teams constructed for the spacecrafts be usable as climbers of the elevator too if changed and modified a little bit? Because of the accessability of solar energy and permanent wind energy in high balloon altitudes perhaps participation in the competition for the elevator prize concerning the energy source might make sense too. This migth be an alternative for some teams. Dipl.-Volkswirt (bdvb) Augustin (Political Economist) |
