If you are from that team, or if you are simply a fan of that X-Prize
project, then you may be encouraged by this piece of news....

FIRST: While I don't see the Canadian Arrow project launching
an astronaut into space this summer, and thus not in the competition
against Scaled Composites, or the Da Vinci Project [the other Canadian
competition] for the 10 million dollar X-Prize.

SECOND: But I do believe that the Canadian Arrow team, if they were to receive multimillion dollar sponsership from some Canadian billionaires
[i.e., The Bronfmanns, Mr. Irving, etc...] may have a shot of being
the first to launch a civilian spaceshot into LEO within 10-15 years using the Canadian Arrow technology [really V2 technology updated] as a starting point.

THIRD: The Canadian Arrow rocket motor uses LOX-Alcohol for propellant
[specific impulse(sl) = 200-205 seconds] and achieves 56,000 Ibs of thrust,
burn-time about 65 seconds; all basically similar to the V2 rocket.

BUT!...If the Canadian Arrow team were to receive multimillion dollar
Canadian private sponsership, they may be able to fund a stretched
version of their rocket with a cluster of FIVE rocket motors at liftoff
[56,000Ibs of thrust x 5 = 280,000Ibs], with stretched propellant tanks
containing not 9 metric-tons of liquid propellant, but 75 metric-tons for the FIRST-STAGE.

THEN!....By changing the liquid-propellant from LOX-Alcohol [Isp = 200 seconds] to LOX-Ammonia [Isp = 250 seconds] they would boost
the FIRST STAGE combined thrust from 280,000 Ibs to around
350,000Ibs, similar to the thrust generated by John Glenn's ATLAS
rocket booster.

interesting idea.... i'd imagine they'd also need a bigger vehicle to do that.

I was looking into a similar thread of development.

Can Arrows version of the motor only produces 15,000 poinds of thrust and is pressurised, instaed of turbine powered, hence the second stage. (A V2 could hit 150km all on its own.)

Also the V2 was tweaked only marginally by the Russians into the R2 to produce 75,000-80,000 pounds of thrust.

To go bigger, Can-arrow needs:
- Full strength engine
- Gutsy Turbines
- Gimbaled thrust control.

But othewise yeah, you build an 6 Xprize vehicles and strap the all together...

If you interlaced the fuel systems you'd have engine-out redundancy, another handy thing that Von Braun favored later on with the Saturns.
