The first stage of the SpaceX falcon1 rocket is supposed to be recoverable/reuseable. on the first 2 launches they lost the first stage. What happened to the 1st stages from launches 3 and four? Were they ever recovered? Was their condition as expected? Are they going to be destructively tested, or refurbished and reused?

I heard that it was destroyed on 4. They plan to work on reusability, but haven't actually installed a thermal protection system on the first stage yet. I don't know if they even made an attempt to recover the wreckage.

In the press conference call, Musk mentioned they didn't plan to recover the first stage this time. They still plan to make it reusable in the future. The current price of Falcon 1 is without it being reusable, he expects prices still to go down in the future.
