Where do they go? Can people buy pieces of them? Maybe even the whole thing?

I have seen things like pieces of data tape from Apollo and Mercury missions on sale through e-bay. As far as larger items, I have no clue... Anyone???

I think that most of them go to museums.
There is a page somewhere that lists the locations of all the US spacecraft. |

Yep, they end up in museums. There will be one that has the main ownership over the spacecraft, and then the craft will be rented out for displays at other museums for extended amounts of time...

You missed out on the Russian Buran space Shuttle that sold a couple years back. |

That sounds like the title of a children's book.

I once saw a TV documentary on a village hospital in Russia that was having to deal with people from out in the sticks. They seemed to exhibit signs of a radiation like sickness. When they travelled out to the dachas and hunting lodges, they found that many of them were constructed from old rockets which had been crashed back down or abandoned! Only in Russia eh!
