Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I tried to find one that fit the best. Anyways, I've noticed that there is a ton of stuff going on right now in regards to space travel and exploration. Here's what I have so far:
1. Cassini at Saturn. 2. Mars rover still going at it. 3. Voyager's are nearing or past the termination shock. 4. SOHO 5. China has space travel. 6. Xprize has mutliple teams going at it, with SS1 leading the way. 7. ISS is still there going strong. 8. Europe is testing it's space shuttle. 9. Serious talk of a space elevator. What am I missing? Please put it in. It's staggering to see all this going on, at the same time. I think we are only a few years away from something groundbreaking. The only lacking factor is NASA. But hopefully they will get their butts in gear soon. |

There are a lot of things going on, but in terms of actual orbital launches (its hard to define "Suborbital" launches, i.e. Nike sounding rocket vs. Estes kit with a C motor), there aren't nearly as many launches as say, in the seventies when cold-war concerns had a lot more flights going on.

They have an atmospheric reentry tester they are testing. I think it's called Phoenix.

The other Mars Rover 2 US probes orbiting Mars, Mars Global Surveyor and Mars Odyssey. 1 European Mars orbiter, Mars Express. Although they are definitely turned off I believe both Viking orbiters are still circling Mars as well. Nozomi is still swinging between earth and Mars as well. I'm sure that there a bunch of other non-working stuff around Mars, making it the second most crowded orbital space in the solar system. The ISS may still be going strong, too bad the space suits needed to maintain it are not. |
