"The year was 1969. Apollo 11 astronauts, by riding the most powerful rocket ever created to the Moon, became the first to fulfill our age-old dream of traveling to worlds beyond our own. It was the culmination of a decade of pioneering work in space exploration ..."

from the article "Not everyone supports these efforts. Many ask if it’s worth spending precious resources on these ambitions."

I don't like paying taxes but I would rather pay taxes to have our citizens working on a project and getting paid for it than being out of work and collecting unemployment or welfare.

Anyone care to explain the precious resources going to the Middle East?

I was born long after Apollo, so spaceflights a given to me. But Apollo 13 was a cool movie . . .

I was seven at the time of the moon landing in 1969.

Sometimes I think that nothing in space hasn't happened since then. But I am wrong...even a private company has been to space with a manned mission..or several with several men by now.

The 3 million kilo weight of the APOLLO 11 sometimes scares me a bit. Could you get there in a lighter manner to reach higher speeds ?
