You misunderstand me. I am talking of moving from a freefall drop in a plane to a rocket powered plane, a manned rockoon... keep pushing it faster and harder until it's suborbital, and then perhaps further.

No I did understand you. I'm just telling you that a "rockoon" does not work unless you can figure out why/how to push a bag of several hundred kgs of dead weight gas up to 100 km.

Then you clearly don't understand what a rockoon is.

Hi,

Yes, you can do each of those approaches, but non of them will get you the holy grail of a fully reusable orbital vehicle. Or, are you only looking at suborbital vehicles?

I'm only thinking of suborbital flights, freefall flights, and nearspace tourism. To start with, I'd like to put an upper stage on a fast suborbital vehicle eventually, and experiment with beamed power to push the spaceplane faster...

Hi,

Ok, suborbital is easy, just a solid business model and you can find the money. The how is easy and can be done in a private hangar.

Now, orbital "RASCAL" insertion, flyback boosters, etc. all the ways to get to orbit have been figured out and done. We are still just waiting on someone todo it for "the people".

Beamed power, yes you can do it, but it is not practical.....the holy grail a vehicle that can take 10 to 20 people into and out of orbit once a week like an aircraft and as safe.....then space for the people will take off.

That is when "WE" will enter the Space Age!

Don't be an ass. You weren't clear on what you were describing. You are now taking about the old sounding rocket "rockoon". No, that won't work either. What was practical for a small rocket, isn't for something that can carry a person(s). It's simpler, safer, and more straight forward to just build a bigger booster.

Now that we are into beamed energy, I'm going to put on my tin-foil hat and head out...

Hi,

So they are still just at the model stage still deciding on a planform? Ascender II has already flown and we have begun building the commercial version Ascender III.
