I have Cerebral Palsy and I have a Medtronic Baclofen pump that controls my spasticity.I was wondering if my pump will work in outer space.

After 5 minutes of reading up on what one is:
Assuming that the pump can function in micro-gravity and the catheter is placed where it will be stable (organs move a bit and fluids pool differently), there shouldn't be any reason why it wouldn't work. The medication itself moves by diffusion into the spinal fluid, that actually should improve as the rate at which it permeates the spinal cord should increase. You should ask a Medtronic Rep. this question to see how they handle it. LOL. |
